RIP: Les Paul
MusicAugust 13, 2009 by Blake EwingLester William Polsfuss invented the solid body electric guitar that made rock 'n roll possible. Les Paul, as he was better known, died today at the age of 94.
Among his other contributions to what would become the juggernaut of rock, include sound on sound recording (overdubbing), tape delay and multitrack recording.
These are all things that the average indie musician (and all pop artists) rely on every day.
In his own words:
When you're my age, you know that the end is in sight. How do you handle it? You live for the moment. The past is gone and the future isn't here yet, and you ain't gonna change it no matter what you think. And so the most obvious thing to do is right now.
His contributions to the music world and industry were many and extremely important.
RIP.
