The Twitter Opera
MusicAugust 19, 2009 by Blake EwingThe Royal Opera House in London is currently in the process of coming up with a new opera. Not that novel until you look a little deeper and see that the narrative and libretto are coming from a rather unusual source: twitter.
From their blog:
We’re investigating how short, 140-character contributions can build upon each other to create a non-linear narrative – like a Choose Your Own Adventure story or a game of Consequences. Our mysterious opera director will be regularly blogging here with updates on the story, and as well as offering his thoughts on how the story can combine with some music and acting and marvellous singing to become a finished piece.
The opera is scheduled to be performed on the weekend of Sept. 4-6, this year.
So what is a twitter opera about? Well, as of Aug. 1, this is the storyline:
In brief, at the end of Act One, Scene One, William is languishing in a tower, having been kidnapped by a group of birds who are anxious for revenge after he has killed one of their number. Hans has promised to rescue him. The Woman With No Name is off to her biochemistry laboratory to make a potion to let people speak to the birds.
So, you too can contribute to this project...
Interesting.
